Press Release 2005
Barbara Anderson, Susan Binder, Shelley Curtis, Nancy Hagood,
Beth Norris, Janet O’Doherty-Hessel, Diana Coomes Reynolds, and Tammy Tasker are women in the recently formed art group,
the Debutantes. These eight women are exhibiting artwork in a group show, The Debutante’s Ball, to include drawing,
mixed media, painting, photography, and sculpture.
Diana Coomes Reynolds is curator for the exhibit. Reynolds
was inspired by making a commitment to organize a show with other kindred spirits that could ‘have a ball’ getting
acquainted as a group and making new artwork. As a result, The Debutantes dedicated themselves to creating an exhibition within
one year of their first meeting (August 2004) that was a luncheon hosted by Reynolds at Burton’s Restaurant
in Corvallis, Oregon. The group’s monthly meetings since then have occurred in a variety of locations that include the
homes of some Debs, Corvallis Central Park Gazebo, and the OSU Center
for the Humanities. The main topic of these meetings is to show off recent creations, with occasional subtopics relating to
logistics of presenting and publicizing the show.
The Debutantes agree they are never too old to have fun showing
off their talents and they are committed, though not institutionalized, to re-launching their art careers in the new century.
The Debutantes' Ball is scheduled for September 1 – 30, 2005, in the Giustina Art
Gallery in the OSU LaSells
Stewart Center. LSC is located at 875 SW 26th
Street (Western ad 26th Street) in Corvallis, Oregon.
An opening reception is will be Friday, September 9th,
2005. Light refreshments will be served. Music will be provided by Adam Scramstad.
